Well, isn't that interesting.

I have used a number of stand alone access control devices over the years; and yes, some have been returned. This model in particular has a number of positive aspects, but two obvious disadvantages. The unit is well assembled, very solidly built. Positive action buttons; there is no "hash", the keys work fine every time. The program is unusually simple and well written, which I cannot say about some other models. However, and there are two big "buts", as with many of these devices, tamper-proof sensors are virtually non-existent. One might think there was a tamper switch designed to connect an alarm system; no Therefore, an attacker with a screwdriver can bypass this lock in ten seconds. There should be two tamper devices, one for the cover and one to detect someone removing the entire display from the drywall and thereby gaining access to the cable. Second, while the keyboard is backlit, THERE IS NO KEY. There's another keyboard model that has a cheaper sibling model with the same problem: you pay $90 and get backlit keys, you pay $35. and you only get the backlit panel. Same manufacturer. For now I'm keeping this, but am looking elsewhere; I suggest you keep looking.

Pros
  • Built-in Light Sensitive Resistor (LDR) for tamper protection
Cons
  • Available in white only
