Review on πŸ¦„ Highly Durable SUPCASE Unicorn Beetle Shield Galaxy Note 8 Case with Screen Protector - Pink by Patrick Cox

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The most protective of the 4 cases I've tried but I don't like them

I tried 4 different cases to replace my Note 8 after the original screen in my original case (Incipio Dual Pro) shattered when I slowly dropped it from a height of 60cm. This case has survived many drops/falls/bumps, the two outer layers in the corner had chipped off and was a bit slippery to hold on to, but combined with the tempered glass screen protector I found it ok. On that fateful day at work I had my phone in my breast pocket, I leaned over to grab my work bag and it fell out of my pocket, closed my work bag and landed on the sealed floor (no hard tiles or anything) and the protective screen came off itself intact, leaving my phone's screen with missing chips in the bottom left corner. I was devastated before then going through hell through Asurion for 2 weeks and getting a refurbished replacement followed by a patchy second refurbished replacement. When looking for a new case, I was wary of sticking with the Incipio. So I bought 1) UAG (Urban Armor Gear) Plasma Feather-Light Rugged [ICE] Drop Tested Military Phone Case, 2) Unicorn Beetle Shield SUPCASE Rugged Case Holster Case with integrated screen protector, 3) Spigen Hybrid Armor Case with Air Cushion Technology and hybrid drop protection and 4) the new Incipio case (Reprieve Sport). I was most concerned about the corner and screen protection. I ended up returning everything except the unicorn bug case although I hated it because all the other corners had varying degrees of protection (or 3 corners were good but the corner with the S Pen was lousy) and it had them nearly. there were no lips to prevent the long sides of the phone screen. None of these worked as well with tempered glass screen protectors as the original Incipio Dual Pro (the Unicorn Beetle case has its own screen protector and so is not used with a separate screen protector unless you modify it to remove the built-in one) . I've always liked the Spigen, but overall it was too thin and weak for me. The outside grip was one of the best, but my biggest concern was when the phone accidentally fell out of my hand (almost all of my previous phone failures were NOT due to my phone slipping out of my hand). I chose the Unicorn Beetle because I think it protects my phone the best), but it's awkward to use, ugly, and causes a lot of problems (I don't want to use two hands to pry off unnecessary port covers). ). With no plug or charger, it adds a ton of depth to an already great phone, the design is aesthetically poor and looks like everyone else's iPhone case, and it still doesn't have the perfect toe-in S-Pen when it comes to those back of the phone (but that's for the best in all these cases) I'd honestly rather work and pull out my S-Pen and protect that corner than not protect it (and I use my S-Pen all the time) . Overall, I don't like this case at all (everyone at work has a similar looking iPhone case in different colors), it's chunky and doubles the width of the phone. The protective film is very difficult to keep clean (the outer surface and inner surface somehow let dust, hair, etc. through, and the protective film tore after about a month from hitting the cup holder in the working machine. The S-Pen works well with the protective film (I'd give it an 8/10 on that) What I hate the most are the unnecessary port protectors that I'll just cut off, I have to open them wide enough with two hands to insert an extra one every time I'm in the Machine sits to play sound and also plugs in the charging port. In fact, this almost prevents the aftermarket connector from fully engaging (the connector that came with my Note 8 replacement.) The corner protector is fine but always missing nor the s corner pen where it outperforms other cases is in the protection of the long edges of the phone screen with the case's sandwich top case with otter cases another issue is that the back of the case makes it less effective with my Spigen magnetic car phone mount. With the center raised portion of the brand logo on the back, I have to be pretty accurate when placing it on the mount or it will slip a bit. It has been dropped many times despite being the sturdiest strong magnetic mount I have ever seen and I have tried it 6 more times with no problems. In fact, it's likely that the entire bracket will be removed from the vent, not one at a time, except in this case). Almost 2 months old, fairly resistant to scratches/dents etc. I can see a few minor scuffs on the rubber bumper. Screen protector is another story, it looks like crap and I don't keep it in my purse for keys, pocket knife, hedgehog or whatever. The corner bumpers were the second thickest I've tried EXCEPT for the S Pen corner! It was still less than I had hoped. I know they're stuck between a rock and a hard place, as a lot of people, especially guys with big fat fingers, complain about accessing the S Pen, but I'd rather my phone not crash and get me working need a little to get the S Pen. Feather than not (personal preference). Having dabbled with the S Pen since 2013 with my 2014 version of the Note 10.1 and my first Note phone, the Note 3, it doesn't look like the S Pen hasn't been made easier to use overall with Assistive Press. .If you lead a heavy lifestyle with phones like me and you drop/drop/break them a lot then you definitely need at least a tempered glass screen protector instead of the built in screen protector or you can cross your fingers and hopefully it will crack and not yours Phone with less than severe bumps/drops. If you care about the long sides of your phone screen, this type of case is for you. This is a good company with quality products and it's not their fault, I just don't care about the looks. It took 1st place among many cases I've tried, but I'll be the first to admit I'm still looking for the one (one that protects and looks good). And I'm definitely chopping off those port covers. UPDATE: After a few months they go in the bin. The screen protector was so polished/scratched and the corner of the case was cracked, so I switched to the "Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Cell Phone Case - Ultra-Thin Transparent Case with Built-in Anti-Scratch Screen, Full Body Shockproof, Impact Resistance, Extreme Impact Resistance. Rugged Case, Black/Grey I couldn't be happier - everything that annoyed me as hell about the unicorn case (look/feel/chunky, slipping off my magnetic phone mount, dust/hair/lint getting trapped UNDER the screen protector and annoying Complicated unnecessary port covers aren't a problem with this cheaper case. The only difference is that the outer back shell isn't as thick, which is only an issue if my phone is hit by a hard/sharp object, not by a fall and the feel of this case is much better, I see the beautiful color of my real phone and the edges that the bil The screen and the corners are equally protected. I bought a plain black unicorn case as a replacement, but I'm MUCH happier with this other case.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Nothing
