You are instructed not to wear them on sidewalks or other hard surfaces and I can see why. They definitely don't have the thickest and most durable soles, but it's enough to protect you in the river. I wear an 8.5 in almost every shoe and I ordered an 8.5 in this shoe. It sits comfortably and doesn't feel like it's being pulled away by the current.
