Doesn't smell quite like violets, or at least most of the scent isn't violet but floral, smells like perfume or some detergent. It's not as heavy or sweet as other fragrance oils, but still about on par with heavy perfumes. It's a bit powdery (I don't think it's too powdery, but some people have commented that it is), and it smells strongly of perfume. If you're expecting something like Yardley Violet Eau de Toilette you'll be disappointed, but I wouldn't say it's bad, especially by the standards of typical fragrance oils. Alpha ionone is what gives violets their signature scent, and fragrance oil would probably be better if they just used alpha ionone diluted in water (in my personal opinion), but that may seem overkill to some, ethereal and meaningless.
