It basically just helps remove tartar and helps keep the gum line healthy. I actually added some peppermint oil to my toothpaste by simply rubbing some oil onto my finger instead of adding it to her dog's toothbrush paste. it is instant fresh breath. The toothpaste is a decent amount, the same size as a tube of human toothpaste at a dollar store. she doesn't choke on it and you don't miss a single tooth. It is also a brush with soft bristles. I have never received a finger brush with this set as mentioned.
