I'm 5'10, 150#, jeans size 31x32. The mid-rise size is perfect for these cycling shorts. The padding is just below the buttocks/coccyx area to the middle. The front has extended padding but no real padding. I give 4 stars, a good pant but no real padding in the front. Comfortable in the saddle, not a HUGE difference you might expect when comparing regular shorts to road bike shorts when sitting primarily on a memory foam pad. It does its job! After riding down the hill and around the block the shorts feel good, I'm happy with them, wouldn't I. Remember that for thickness and comfort, the front padding should be actual padding and not a piece of fabric.
