- UPDATE (August 2015) - I bought it in April 2013 and today (August 2015) it officially ceased to exist. To be honest this is the biggest POS I have ever used. It was bad from the start. As mentioned in my previous review, it doesn't even charge from day one. I had to keep turning it on. Not only that, I had to turn it on AFTER I started the car because if I started the car after plugging it in, charging wouldn't work. I had an earlier Garmin GPS (cheaper base model) and didn't have this problem. I didn't notice his problems until after the return deadline, so I stuck with him. The more I used it, the more I hated it. It has a very sluggish start to find a new address (the map app on my phone is 10x faster), a very slow recalculation, there is a map that is probable. hasn't been updated since 2005, although I update regularly by computer (can't find addresses for parishes that aren't entirely new), and often shows that the exit or turnoff is still a long way off when I'm already there. In a way, I'm even glad he's dead. I can finally get rid of this junk and buy something better. ------------------ Overall it works well most of the time and I really like the map update feature. However, there are a few issues that contribute to a 3-star rating: 1. Charging is weird. If you start the car AFTER the GPS is already connected, the device will not charge from the car, just use the battery. You need to plug it in after you start the car to start charging. I had an earlier model from Garmin that had no issues (it always charged when plugged in) and I have the same machine.2. The real-time updater doesn't work on my Mac at home, so I have to take it to the office to update it on my Windows PC.3. Sometimes it can't find an address or it gives you a weird route that doesn't work. However, I think this is a common problem and my previous block did the same thing from time to time. You must use common sense (and your ability to read the signs) and not follow it blindly. Response time can be slow. Sometimes I'm already at a crossroads, but the map shows that I still have a lot to do. Because of this, I missed corners a couple of times. Again just my experience. Your mileage may vary. This works for me as I really only need the main recommendations instead of all the bells and whistles like live traffic etc.
