Review on Minus33 Merino Wool Mountain Heritage Lightweight 🧦 Boot Socks: Proudly Made in USA, New Hampshire by Marco Roberson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Quality, not too bulky and not thick, although a little pricey.

I seem to have always given low socks a low priority and only picked what big stores sell. They were always mostly made of cotton and over time they all punctured and became lifeless soft and thin until thrown away. Something made me buy wool socks, which seemed like a mistake as I live in a warm climate and thought they would be hopelessly hot. Was I ever wrong They usually have a thicker weave, making them more durable and softer to the touch, allowing for a springier gait. But wool is also antimicrobial, preventing bacteria from multiplying, so you can rest assured that odors are virtually non-existent. Since then, all my socks have been wool or wool blends. My first pair were quite bulky socks with inner loops and none of them were dark enough for work clothes although I wore them anyway as they were mostly hidden. So when I saw this brand, it turned out that they are both slightly thinner than I already had and give darker colors. They've arrived and they really do feel like more normal socks than the bulky stuff you might associate with mountain hiking. The fit isn't as high at the ankle but still fits. I was sent a few to try and then give an honest opinion. I liked them so much I went back to buy a few more pairs. That is, until I saw a price tag of around twenty dollars for a pair. This is unmistakably a very high quality of workmanship and materials. But the price makes you think. As an alternative, I ordered socks that were longer and higher at the calf and also cost about twelve dollars each and sold in sets of three. They have arrived and although I plan on keeping them the weave is looser and they tend to sag around the ankle all the time. Therefore, the price is not always the deciding factor. You usually get what you pay for. I want them to be maybe a third cheaper and then stock up. Anyhow, I still give them a strong recommendation, but I feel like they're rated a bit high.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
