The price is too good to be true

The cameras are advertised as 1080p, 1920 TVL (1920x1080, 2 megapixels). As received, 1080N resolution (1080 x 960, 1 megapixel) is available for viewing/recording, or *half* of what is advertised. The body of the camera is described as metal, weatherproof IP66. I have cameras with plastic bodies that might not even survive a spitting contest. I paid just over $200 for this system at the end of May 2021, and at that price I'd rate it as a pretty good entry-level system with easy setup and use, and decent enough features *for indoor use* or casual outdoor uses, like tracking where the dog is, or in my case which part of the garden my chickens and ducks are destroying. As a system, I'd rely more on protecting my identity from injury or death than chance (and I honestly didn't expect that to be the case given the low cost). The plastic cameras, in particular, are too flimsy to withstand abuse from would-be attackers, and the motion-detection capabilities are a cruel joke on the streets at night when you want it most. During the day, when spiders and bugs aren't doing it, motion detection works fine thanks to bright red IR LEDs, as long as you cover plants or other objects that sway in the wind. At night, even with the lowest sensitivity setting and most of the field of view covered, I would get an alert from a camera at least every five minutes because an insect was flying past the lens or a nocturnal stray spider was opening a shop. to get a reward for it. The system *helped* me find two possums in pitch black darkness. Under the system's built-in IR they were clearly visible and identifiable as such, but the excitement of the ducks made me suspect something was wrong, not the motion detection system with the wolf's call. Face recognition or license plate reading, even at 1080p, and the performance claims of the included DVR/controller, it's not going to be a good choice at any price anyway. If its true capabilities hadn't been misrepresented in marketing materials I might have given it four stars for its value for money. Due to false advertising I want to give it zero stars but Revane forces me to give at least one. I've also reported inconsistencies in Revain.Postscript: as I was writing this, the dashcam started turning off about every five minutes (which doesn't seem uncommon even with more expensive Chinese brands). I was planning on continuing to use it as a cheap livestock monitor, but if the suggested simple fixes I've found online don't fix the problem I've had enough and will be sending it back.
