My 6.5 year old wears medium. He is of average height and weight. He wears size 1 sneakers. These socks go over his knees. You sit comfortably on them. The medium suits him perfectly, but is a bit too high. He likes her. He wears them skiing, better than his cotton socks. They help keep his feet warm and dry. The only downside is that after washing/drying his regular clothes I noticed that there were areas of stretch that ran the full length of the socks.
