Insanely bright! for backup lamp

My new 2014 Prius is a model 2 to me so no backup camera ugh. I've noticed that I can't see ANYTHING when reversing. I replaced the stock bulbs with these, and even in bright sunlight the replacement lenses are almost blindingly bright. I was itching to go to work to see someone pull out of my driveway. Unfortunately I didn't care about them. Your mileage may vary. It seems like the Toyota Prius has reverse lights just to let others know you're reversing. Lenses simply diffuse light. Therefore, when looking at them, the entire lens is filled with INTENSE light. And yet very little of that light goes anywhere that is useful. A backup near the garage door confirms this. The whole door is fairly well lit. There are no rays of light and nothing is directed towards the road. I'm pretty sure it's not the bulb, it's the lens housing reflecting the light. The lens is made out of what looks like a set of small square mirrors. The problem is that none of these mirrors actually focus the light on a specific point. If Toyota thought everyone would opt for a backup camera, they should have made it standard. Now I need to replace the main unit with an update that will give me all the great new features. I'm all for it, but $17 for a set of bulbs is a lot easier to swallow than a few hundred bucks head unit. I too can't wait to run a video cable from the trunk lid to the front of the car. I prefer to leave replacing the head unit and installing/connecting all the accessories to the professionals. These LED bulbs are extremely, insanely bright. Their durability remains to be seen. I can also assume that given the number of chips they must get pretty hot. I wouldn't use them as a DRL or any other application that has them on for more than a few minutes. I think they burn out quickly. When used as intended with a reflector that really focuses the light, the result should be simply stunning. In my case they just tell me to back up, come towards you, close your eyes and get ready to punch! Closing the eyes is involuntary. I could have completed my LED conversion much cheaper if I had gone with a standard 7440 LED bulb, but again, that's not JDM's fault. They have manufactured a product that works exactly as advertised.
