This is a very light device. Some might call it cheap, but for me it's lightweight. The only problem I had was that the device wouldn't pull the tape in, which it automatically reversed. I solved the problem by omitting the lid. Apparently the door is somehow in contact with something. I only had a few tapes I wanted to duplicate, if I had dozens I might look for a more expensive product. I contacted the local service to do the conversion and they charged $50 for two tapes. This unit cost less and when I come across other cartridges I own them. For the record, my recordings were performances, so I didn't care too much about the ones that talked about sound quality. A few moments, I could not find the battery compartment. I plugged it into my charging dock to listen while recording onto the deck, everything worked fine. I also hooked it up to external speakers so my neighbors could enjoy my 1989 speech, probably before they were born, and that worked fine too. Know that you are not buying an expensive device, follow the instructions and you will be fine.
