I've had Pentax DSLRs and SLRs for 40 years. The K-5 and K-30 can stand alongside their respective 35mm cameras. These are great cameras. I bought a K-30 a few months ago and used it for portraits. It has way more features than I need as I only need a manual camera. This is an advanced camera for advanced users. It can use any Pentax lens made for any previous Pentax SLR or DSLR model, including older 35mm film cameras. All digital Pentax models are waterproof. They just closed the seals on this cell. A lot of people here will list all the advantages of this camera and it has a lot of really good qualities. But it also has two negative sides. Unlike the K-5, this camera does not have a PC connection for external flashes. I use a wireless transmitter that is in a hot shoe. You can also use an adapter with a PC connection. (The camera has a wireless system for using wireless flash, but I have yet to get the camera's wireless system to work properly with studio flashes.) 2. Like all autofocus cameras, it doesn't always focus properly on very black skin . In the end, only the photos count. This camera takes great photos. If you don't want to spend a fortune on Nikon or Canon DSLRs and lenses, but still want to take great photos, then this is the camera for you. Plus it will go where Canon or Nikon want it to go. (I like Nikon and Canon cameras. I like Nikon the most. But I don't like how much money they put into them. That's why I always chose Pentax. Same quality. Almost the same specifications. Less price.) Ok, I read a review here where someone bought this camera but they didn't like it because they couldn't figure it out. I got that feeling. I'm 62 now, but when I was 14, my aunt, who was a magazine photographer, gave me a 35mm Leica camera. I brought it home and tried to understand but couldn't. I'm used to using cartridges in cameras with simple lenses. Even at home nobody knew how to deal with it. I gave it back to her after a few months. In later years, I wish I still had it. DSLRs are great for advanced amateur and professional photographers alike. People doing things with cameras that the automatic features and settings just can't handle. Or they need to use +1000mm telephoto lens or 15mm wide angle lens occasionally, or some other unusual situation. Or these cameras are for people who want to learn how to do these things. If you're not in that group and don't want to spend the time and effort learning the art of creating beautiful images, then a word of caution: the N-Shoot camera is probably your best bet. I hope it helps. I really like this camera. Update August 9, 2015 I was surprised by the request for information about this camera, so I decided to update this review. First of all, I still use this camera even though Pentax has had the K50 for a long time and my daughter loves the K50. I also use K-3 for most of my studio photography. I also have 30 year old K-mount lenses that work with this camera (aperture priority only or manual). I still think this camera is great. I am uploading some photos of her. . I don't have a sharpness test chart so I took a photo of a page in the K30 manual to test sharpness with the K30. I then cropped part of this photo for you to get a closer look. I have used the K30 with studio flashes and a hot shoe adapter.
