Home button not working

I just received this product today so I can't comment on how waterproof the case really is. I'm a bit disappointed because the home button doesn't work on my iPhone in a case. I received this specifically because the product description said I could keep using my phone's screen. I am taking my daughter to the water park for her birthday and of course I want to take photos while we are there. I can press the side button to turn on the phone and then go to the camera, but it would be a lot easier if I could just press the home button.
