Review on 🐹 Quiet and Spacious: Kaytee Small Animal Silent Spinner Wheel Giant by Erica Williams

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Durable and popular, good, bad and ugly

TL/DR: A durable and reliable bike from a company with great customer service. If you take care of him and keep him clean, he will outlive your pet. This is a long review but I wanted to give a serious and unbiased opinion on this bike. I would also like to point out that I am in no way affiliated with the company, just someone who loves their products and this particular bike. The good: This is the only wheel my hedgehog will use, period. I am very thankful for that because he is calm and runs all night every night and never stops. Near silence (he has a very soft thump and I know he's moving unless I'm completely passed out) lets me sleep since his cage is right next to my bed (in my room, dogs can't knock him over). has an open cage). I know I won't wake up with a broken toe or a ripped out nail because I got stuck in bars and crevices like most bikes do and I have to rush to his vet and clean up the crime scene like a mess since run continued. I get 12 inches because everything else seems to arch his back, but he's more of a hedgehog and a dwarf or pygmy would do fine with a smaller wheel. But the 12" wheel is still very compact and only protrudes 5" when using the stand, so no space is wasted for the spinner and disc wheels. mount his bike. This means I only have one exercise bike and can take him from his cage to his playpen to his playground and back again so he can still smell it's his exercise bike. The quality is very good given the number of hours per day. On the day he adjusts he is 2.5 years old and still going strong. My last was almost 5 years before Jasper died of brain cancer and still had plenty of life in it (never reuse a toy once you have lost your pet and made a new friend, they are not substitutes and they deserve their own toys and things that belong only to them). Cleaning it properly is easy with the right method, but read more about that in the Deformities section. Bad: The wheel starts to wear out after a while. For example, the color isn't as bright, the clamps are harder to open after a few dozen cleanings, and the bearings might need some maintenance to keep their whisper quiet (ie it's part of the machine, put some animal oil on it if it starts to squeak). The plastic screw on the back that attaches it to the wire cages can easily cross over and will also wear out after a while. I secured it with some tape and pliers (with cloth to protect against damage, of course, it's plastic after all) but I guess most people don't move this wheel from a bench to a wire indoors. Playpen to and from a separate wired outdoor play area and back to the stand at least once a day weather permitting for many years so I'm probably just a crazy hedgehog owner testing the limits of these wheels. The stand, getting it in and out of the plastic grommets that hold it is an absolute nightmare. The fit is very tight (for good reason it adds stability and strength as it's not attached to anything like you would attach it to wire rods) and they must have used the Fire of Mordor to forge their power or something , I still struggle with this stand every time trying to get it back and I can only get the grip I need to take it off with a pivot like pliers or some kind of stick. Other than that, it doesn't bend if you're sane, and the rubber-plastic coating on the metal still has a scratch or tear (it's dented in a few places since I lost my patience, but not the inner wire , only the coating). If you have a pet other than a hedgehog (or someone who likes to gnaw or chew on anything) you should know that if the wheel breaks or comes loose, it will need to be replaced. I don't know if it hurts them when they eat it, but why would you risk it here, we're not talking about the cost of a trip to the vet or even an annual check-up to change a wheel. Freak: I was considering adding this part but given some of the reasons for the bad reviews I will because this wheel deserves a legitimate chance in your home. This wheel is disassembled: The deck/wheel consists of a white backing that starts halfway through the tread and attaches to the bearings and either the stand or wire mount, and a colored piece that attaches to the white center of the tread becomes and creates an edge to hold her and gives her that click. Colour. These pieces are attached together (depending on size) with 4 to 8 plastic clips that overlap and snap together (one side is higher than the other) and this creates a nice flat and smooth space for little feet and toes. walk safely. These clamps are strong but thin, they are not meant to be torn apart by gently squeezing the lower side from the outside and the higher side from the inside out, and they separate smoothly and won't snag. not break. Our little friends weigh less than a pound so it doesn't take long to put these pieces together so be careful and they will last. If you somehow break it, call or email the company. They have incredible customer service and support their product to the best of their ability. This wheel is made of plastic and basically every animal that walks on it has claws, it's just the nature of the animal. (and some, like hedgehogs, are covered in sharp needles that make a clawing sound when scratched). They make scratching noises from time to time, they scratch and make movement noises of other small animals, this is normal but a little louder because the wheel can amplify it and project a little more since it's closed, not the wires. bent together. If your little guy's claws bother you, turn the wheel the other way and it will calm him down considerably because it's no longer pointed at you. Your legs will find support and run with spin (because there are no wires). It's pretty cool to deal with the loss of traction due to harshness, but its extra areas of dirt can get in and multiply, and the claws can claw (make grating noises). Dirt is really the only ugly part I see on this bike and that's to be expected. Dirt: Almost every small animal owner starts with a simple spoked wheel and knows and loves the easy cleaning. Once a week/month or whatever you choose you should spray and wipe down the linens. You never saw what your pet unleashed on him and you didn't care because you didn't have to touch him. Well, once again, we're dealing with a solid wheel, and if this is a new thing to you, understand that it keeps what your pet does in it and we've got to be grown ups about cleanliness. Some pets are litter-trained and will jump, go to their litter box, and then hop back. Some aren't used to trash and just go where they go, but everyone will eventually leave a deposit in their bike and keep walking because they're rodents and frankly they don't care. covered, stop them and quickly remove the stain if you're not ready to clean up the mess and wash your pet. If you're cleaning a hard wheel when it comes to bacteria, I'd suggest using a pet cleaner once a day ($3 at Walmart, for example, will get you wipes and a sterilizer) just to keep bacteria at bay and clean up small messes , at least I would suggest a weekly basic cleaning (feel free to do an extra cleaning if you have a big mess). The great thing about this wheel is that it breaks into 4 separate pieces. Usually during the day I fill the sink with vinegar or hot water, soak it and let it sit for 10 or 15 minutes before digging in with a brush and cleaning up. Anything that is somehow stuck in the gap or that you have will dissolve, soften and fall off in the process. Even if nothing is baked anywhere, this ensures the bacteria are dead and your wheel smells fresh and is safely clean for future use. Separating the two sides of the main wheel is necessary for a proper deep clean as things get stuck between the sides and don't need to fester. Make sure you rinse the wheel thoroughly and air dry (if it's sunny outside I always let mine dry a bit in the sun), then put it back together and let your pet ride again. (Again, I don't think I should say that, but some of the negative reviews depend on how dirty the bike gets, so it's important to know what you're getting into).
