Works great even when I have to run the hose.

Works great even when I need to route a hose and cut it under the car. I used it from a tiny push to connect vacuum hoses to a 3/4 push heater hose and a -10 push lockout hose. It's worth the price and usually makes much cleaner cuts than I could do myself.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Expensive

I would recommend this tool

I used this tool to cut 1 1/2 inch ID sanitary hose for a head on my sailboat. The hose is reinforced with stainless steel wire so I had to be careful, wire cutters were used on the wire. This cutter easily cuts through the hose. It also cuts 3/4 inch inner diameter rubber tubing with no problem. I would recommend this tool.

Pros
  • Everything great!
Cons
  • Available in white only

Suitable for occasional use, not suitable for industrial or heavy use

We cut many rubber hoses from 1/4" to 1-1/2", which is normal for a random cut, but that the one we bought only worked for (6) months. The blade looks good but should be dull. Another brand knife is three times older and still cuts well, but the blade looks rough, so I'd like to say that Gates' knife design isn't as good as the other one.

Pros
  • Trial period for one year
Cons
  • Having problems
