Personally, I think the seat has a sharp edge that makes it uncomfortable to sit on, but it may depend on your height/size. I'm 5' 6" and plus sized. A cushion would probably help. They look really classy and feel sturdy, and I like the features of the wide seat and the metal covering on the cross bar for your feet to rest on. But I'm just not comfortable sitting on them. I prefer to sit in one of the kitchen chairs. But they're there for others to use at the kitchen counter, if anyone chooses to! And it completes the look of the breakfast counter. :)
