On a scale from soft to hard this pillow is really average. It has little drag but will still flatten under your head. It works well as a second pad on a hard lift. There is a slight smell when you first unpack it, but it goes away quickly. The material stays cool longer than regular memory foam, but it doesn't "cool" compared to a regular pillow. Memory foam holds heat like crazy, but it's about the same as a regular pillow. Unfortunately, it's not very breathable either, so while it stays as cool as a regular pillow, you can still sweat when your head is resting on the plastic material. "Laws" to replace her broken pillows, that was more than enough.
