I bought one of these to turn into a PFSense router. The form factor is extremely small. It's smaller than my Motorola cable modem, which is great because I want my network hub in my house to be small and tidy. The minimal power consumption is a plus compared to an old PC converted into a PFSense box. 90% of the time this thing is flexible as it has cool fan curve settings built into the BIOS. The only time I've heard a fan was when I was making the most of my gigabit internet when transferring large files between computers or downloading games via Steam. The only real downside for me personally is that both NICs are Realtek 8116/8111 and not Intel. It's not too much of a problem if you update the Realtek drivers for your PFSense box. People say PFSense works badly with Realtek stuff because the driver that comes with PFSense is 15 year old drivers. I updated the drivers on my device and since then Realtek network adapters haven't given me any problems.
