I've bought and remodeled/refurbished many desktops, but in the end I decided I needed a cheap laptop that could play games with low graphics requirements. I bought this upgrade and saved $40 on the new version and there is no difference hardware wise. The only cosmetic damage I could find was a very small scratch on the bottom edge of the screen bezel and on the screen itself. (Looks like someone grabbed a small device trying to pry the bezel off the screen. Possibly during the upgrade phase). It took me days to finally notice it as you can only see it in the right light. I will also say that I upgraded the RAM. I added a second (duplicated) 4GB of RAM to allow the CPU to use dual-channel mode. The Ryzen 3200U processor really needs to run in dual-channel mode to reach its full potential. Otherwise, you slow down the processing. Let's take a look at this laptop. For a laptop I paid less than $300 for, including a RAM upgrade, I'm very happy. I think it's easiest to list some pros and cons: Pros: 1) Fantastic value for money 2) Screen brightness is good for indoors and outdoors* (*outdoors on a covered porch) 3) Great for basic Playing a) Age of Empires 2 HD (Steam) - 30fps average - (AoE2 Definitive - <30fps at max graphics settings b) Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 (OpenRCT) - 60+ c) Destiny2 - No (Seriously - you should Make game so graphically dumb that you d) Fallout New Vegas - 30 fps average and medium/high settings 4) The screen is very nice to look at. Watching videos/movies is very comfortable. The viewing angle is also pretty good. 5) Ability to stream 4k videos easily (the screen doesn't support 4k as its resolution is only 1080p) 6) The battery lasts very well with normal use. a) Streaming videos can take 8 hours if not more. (depending on the brightness of the screen) b) Browsing the Internet and writing documents - 6 hours on average (again depending on the brightness of the screen) c) Games - 3-4 hours - depending on the game. 7) I didn't notice any processor lag under normal usage. (Again, it works with dual-channel RAM). 8) The keyboard looks pretty good. 9) It is very easy to upgrade the hardware. 10) The full size keyboard is definitely a plus. (Yes, small buttons) Cons: (Not many) 1) A bit heavy, but it's 15.5 inches 2) Computer flex is noticeable. Case not very strong. I wish the bottom case was metal instead of plastic. 3) The touchpad isn't the best. Mouse movements are a bit shaky and start to move slowly. Clicks on the pads are just about ok (compared to my IBM work laptop which costs 3x the price.) 4) That That's it. In summary we can say that this is a fantastic entry-level laptop, don't expect it to compete with a $1300 gaming laptop, but it's ok for everyday use and light gaming on hardware, not windows 10 (which I immediately took out of "S mode"". With a small additional upgrade, this Aspire 5 meets all my needs. The performance is stable when browsing the web and browsing media. I'm even happier that I bought the updated version to save for additional upgrades Thanks Do I have recommended it to others I know as it is a reliable laptop for the price Had I bought this new one I might not be so dara n been interested in adding a 2TB SSHD (not included in the originally advertised $300 as they are not required for performance) but am completely satisfied with my research and purchase of this laptop. I'll stop typing now.
