Yes, I have tried using a vented stand to dissipate the heat generated by my MacBook. Unfortunately my computer would slide every time I tilted it. Yes. While it's not perfect, it's a simple and effective way to get air circulating underneath without risking damaging my computer. I admit I have an egg thingy and it turned out to be an exact match of the color of my computer lid, so this works for me. My only problem is that one corner of the computer mostly only sits on one half. Eggs and it takes a bit of adjustment to balance it out on both. Although, to be honest, balancing on a corner seems to work well. Both the lid of my computer and the egg are made of silicone, so that could make a difference. No slip. Inside the egg is a small, fold-out "chick" that doubles as a phone stand. It works as a unit, but I never use phone stands so I don't feel like I can see it properly. I'd say it keeps the mic clean, but you can't charge your iPhone while it's on the stand because it's blocking the charging port. Conclusion: I love the egg. I use it regularly. It works well and I like it.
