After the mattress was too soft then too hard and a bad mattress topper that hurt my back. I am 31 years old so not an elderly person and have not had any back pain. This medium firm 4" SWEETNIGHT topper was perfect. It conforms to your body regardless of your sleeping position. (I sleep on my back and sometimes on my side.) There is a "break-in" period in which you get used to the mattress topper which is normal for any mattress. But once it fits you it's comfortable and supportive. I like the eggshell feel which helps relieve pressure. The topper cover is cold and waterproof. I've been sleeping on it for over 5 weeks now and it's great. It's helped reduce my lower back pain to the point where it's gone now. (FYI, medium firm mattresses are good for those who weigh 130-230. I'm 155 pounds with a medium build , so a 4 inch mattress is perfect for me).
