WILL NOT FIT WHEN USING 18/2 WIRE SURVEILLANCE CURRENT

A few years ago I bought a pair of plug adapters from another supplier (can't remember the brand) to connect a security camera with a pre move -made bnc cable extension. to the existing Siamese RG59 cable. Never had a power problem with this camera since installation. Last April I bought these MOBOREST connectors to extend another camera in a similar way with a BNC extension cable and had to make countless trips to the attic to redo the power connections. "Fixed" connections last from a few hours to a week or more, but always drop out. I tried inserting the 18/2 stranded wire into the connector's terminal slots in every way I could (other than tinning) and tightening the terminal screws in various ways, and used all three of these moborests, hoping one of them would work. Based on my experience with thin power cables in a past life, I suspect that ambient temperature changes may have something to do with the faults in the connection. I really hate having to unplug an extension cord to make connections with a simple splice, but if today's "fix" fails again, this will be my next attempt at a solution. RESULT - failed again. Upon inspection of the adapter slots, both contain tiny pieces of AWG18 stranded wire, and upon inspection of the conductor itself, several strands are broken. If you are playing with the conductor and adapter on a well-lit workbench instead of in the attic, it will be very difficult to insert stranded wires AWG18 into the stripped slots. So I tried a different tactic. I took a short strand of AWG8 copper conductor (it turned out to be close to that of solid AWG18 wire). and plugged it into one of the adapter slots. I had to push it a little but it went in and the screw tightened it securely. So repeat this with the second adapter slot. Then, using wire nuts, connect the solid cores to the stranded wires. I plugged it back in and everything worked. If that power connection doesn't work, I'll edit again.

Pros
  • Sturdy finish
Cons
  • Was damaged
