I bought this for my 2 year old son to keep him from sucking his thumb. Before I bought it, I read that these bitter varnishes sometimes don't work for small children because their taste isn't fully developed yet? But it struck me as strange - an abomination is an abomination, right? Nixxit came in the mail and I tried it on my nails before sticking it on his thumb. It is VERY bitter and I almost threw up. I felt a little guilty putting it on his thumb after trying how awful it was, but figured it would work quickly to keep him. It seemed to help the first day. He immediately pulled out his thumb and said "Blau!". But now on day 3 he doesn't care and sucks his thumb real quick after applying it. I think it will work for older kids or adults who have the mindfulness (and taste bud development?) to avoid it, but it doesn't work for kids. upset.
