I bought this at my wife's insistence as the previous one died and it wasn't that good. I had never used it before but decided to give it a try (when my wife wasn't around of course and without reading the instructions because that's what men do). Cool little gadget and very easy to use but a few tips for those new to using an irrigator.1. Keep your mouth half open to allow water to drain out2. Stay near the sink and lean forward.3. Keep a towel nearby.4. Move at a moderate pace, making sure to trace each tooth without placing the tip too close to the tooth/gingiva. FOR GOD'S LOVE DON'T TURN THIS THING ON FULL POWER. For some reason I decided in my mind that I had to get closer and that it had to be at full power to "get the job done". Believe me, it's not, and the first explosion had a roaring jet of water that sent a crunching jet of cold water into my gums, followed by an unexpected burst of pain in my front teeth. Of course, without even thinking, I pulled my head completely away from the spout/tip, which caused me to start shooting water at myself and then the entire bathroom. After cleaning, I dialed it back halfway and was able to finish brushing the rest of my teeth. It all feels like I did what I originally wanted to do and gave me a fresh feeling from the dentist. Great product, just keep that in mind. Update: The only downside is that the motors are a bit noisy.
