Review on πŸ”ͺ Wusthof In-Drawer Tray Knife Storage: 7-Slot, Natural Wood Organizer by Justin Bishop

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great product with a small design flaw and a simple mod to fix it.

This is a durable product and very well made. I used to always use a knife block, but once all the knives are out, they gather dust and take up counter space. Now I have this in my drawer, it makes my shelf look very minimal even though I put 15 knives in it. This tray only gets 4 stars because of a small blemish: It doesn't quite fit on the long, thick knife. I can imagine something like a standard 8 inch knife or larger, whether it's a western chef or a santoku, either the blade tip sticks out or the handle is too high. It's so because of the 4 cross braces that run through the slots that seem to hold the structure and also prevent the knife from sinking too deep and touching the underside (I assume the box they kept everything in). Now there's a simple change you can make to make it work. Just saw off the crossbars! The tray doesn't fall apart, it's solidly built and I think it's able to hold its shape even if I saw off the entire bar near the bottom. for thicker knives you only need 3 slots, I sawed the crossbar into 3 slots (the photo shows 2 while I was still stocking where I want to put the 3rd chef's knife). As you can see from the before and after photos, it worked great for me.

Pros
  • Organize closets and drawers
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
