I bought this order as did the In Drawer Bamboo knife holder. This one was durable and great, but when I compared the two, I definitely liked bamboo better. I have a set of Wusthof knives and was hoping this would work, but the bamboo holder was better. The bottom and front of the Wüsthof are not closed, but they do close on a bamboo holder to keep the interior of the case from being damaged by the impact of the blade. The idea of the product is brilliant, but the execution is not. You can't see it in any of the pictures due to the angles used, but the storage compartment has two pins perpendicular to the axis of the stored knives and carries most of the weight of the blade. The grip is somewhat supported by the grip area, but only on some knives. For example, the entire Calphalon line of katana has handles that end above the blade, so they won't lie flat in this tray unless a piece of cardboard is placed…

Some of my knives have been stored on a countertop in various knife blocks. If you're like me, counter space is very important, so with some rearranging I was able to clear the box to move the big knives out of the block to at least clear that lot. This is a durable product and very well made. I used to always use a knife block, but once all the knives are out, they gather dust and take up counter space. Now I have this in my drawer, it makes my shelf look very minimal even though I put 15 knives in it.
