Smell is important when you are married to someone who is very sensitive to smells, even to the point of having an allergic reaction. When a disc is worn out - a disc lasts me more than half a year - I simply add another to the leftovers and put my soap dish in the microwave for 20 seconds, stir the molten mass and let it harden. .
