Review on SAMSUNG 5 0Ch S60A Soundbar Built by Kelly Colon

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Lack of performance but mostly positive experience

I bought this to replace the TCL Alto 8i I recently bought as I was fed up with the TCL soundbar's aggressive power saving mode which was regularly interrupting dialogue . Overall, I'm glad I bought the Samsung S60A S-Series soundbar, even if some aspects of it don't quite match the specs of the TCL soundbar. The S60A has a power saving mode, but it doesn't work. For 18 minutes when there is no sound through the device, after which it turns off. In that sense it's pretty reasonable. I have a Samsung KS8000 TV and originally used an S60A soundbar via HDMI 4 which supports ARC. I ended up switching to optical as I had intermittent issues with HDMI and my TV would sometimes switch back to its own internal speakers without me noticing. Why didn't I notice you you ask? Well, while the soundbar sounds better than my TV's internal speakers, it's hard to tell a difference when the volume is low, especially as this soundbar simply lacks the "punch" of the TCL soundbar. One thing you'll notice is that the S60A soundbar probably has an advantage over your TV's speakers in that it has a dedicated center channel for dialogue, allowing dialogue to stand out more without relying on a dedicated dialogue balance have to exit mode. Unfortunately, the soundbar lacks such a balancing mode, meaning you're out of luck if you're looking to normalize audio. Speaking of volume, when I plugged it into the ARC port on my Samsung KS8000 TV, I was glad the volume was higher because the soundbar was reflecting on the screen when I used the TV remote to adjust the volume. Ironically, this wasn't the case when I used the soundbar remote to adjust the volume, and of course it wasn't the same when I switched to optical. Given that you can adjust the volume from 0 to 100, I find the downside of the volume indicator on the soundbar itself a shame, especially since it clearly has LEDs that animate as you adjust the volume, but only show the volume changes. If your TV is mounted high, e.g. Over a chimney or something, by the way, you might want to look around for another soundbar as it doesn't seem to pick up when removed from positions much lower than the soundbar itself. Panel. Overall this is a good soundbar. although I definitely recommend looking elsewhere if you want something with bass, as this soundbar just doesn't perform in that regard.
