On Friday April 11th I was in a bind. I woke up that day, opened my trusty MacBook Pro and heard this. Sound. Bad sound. A horrible squirming sound that's a bit reminiscent of a meat grinder creating a pile of sausages for some sort of sausage party. And this noise came from my laptop. After running around in sheer panic for a while, I decided that no matter what was going on, it was time to replace my 5 year old computer. So I bought a great Mac mini (Quad Core i7 with 8GB RAM) but then I needed something to see how the computer was doing its thing. Monitor if you will. I looked at the monitors offered by Apple. a $999 monster that I'm sure is very nice. But I wouldn't spend that much money. I work in graphic design alongside other areas of marketing, so a good monitor is pretty darn important to my life. In the days of CRT monitors I used ViewSonic and had nothing but good experiences with them. But that was in the 90s and a lot has changed since then. So is my hairline and my belt. The monitor arrived very quickly. I've always been amazed at how quickly Revain delivers, even though I almost always opt for free shipping. I plugged in the included power cord, then connected it to my Mac mini with a single HDMI cable I bought for the occasion. I booted the computer and voila, the monitor came alive. Well, actually he wasn't crying. It happened quietly and I was immediately impressed. Everything was nice and clear. I tested some high resolution graphic files and the colors looked really good. Let's face it, this isn't one of ViewSonic's best monitors and it's not designed for graphics. This is a gaming monitor for people who want a good 24-inch screen without spending a lot of money. Build quality is decent, but you can tell that not much work has gone into making the places where the cables connect very nicely. My answer to that? Who cares! This is a good monitor that is very cheap. I use it for everything from print ad creation to video editing to web design and it works great. I've also used it to watch movies and play games (as intended). Everything is working fine. All pixels glow happily. The stand does the job, although it doesn't require any special adjustments. Considering the price there are no complaints, I recommend it to anyone like me who wants a pretty good monitor without spending a ton of money.
