Review on NICOR Lighting Surface Downlight DSK563120SWH by Shalom Germann

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Functional but flimsy design and limited dimming range

Fixing clips are fragile and can easily bend/break when you try to install/remove them. Don't count on reusing this more than once or twice. The smaller your junction box, the more difficult the installation will be due to the way the wires are routed around the installation clips. The temperature control slide switch is VERY fragile and its tip will almost certainly break during installation, although a thin screwdriver can be used to make adjustments. .Low-level dimming range is limited when switched on, ie the light only comes on above a certain level, but is then dimmed with the dimmer. I used a standard digital triac dimmer designed for LEDs (Lutron MACL-153M) and estimated the "low turn on" to be closer to 10% than the advertised 5%. Overall I wouldn't recommend this light unless you need a temperature controlled surface mount light that should fit in a pancake type junction box (1/2" to 3/4" deep).

Pros
  • Recessed lighting
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
