I've been using this for about 8 months now and I LOVE it. Love it. If you have a canister, be sure to replace your regular feed with one that includes a protein skimmer. I never knew how much surface my tank had until it was gone. This skimmer does a great job of keeping the surface clean, but remember it also does a great job of pulling food in before your fish have a chance to eat it. I had to increase the biofiltration of the Fluval 306 canister filter it's attached to to compensate for food suction. Now I feed 2-3 times a day but only a little to keep it to a minimum. problem while making sure my fish will have enough. Someone mentioned that the water intake has trouble staying on the surface. I ended up tying a small piece of ribbon around the air intake and leaving it there with the body of the ribbon hanging from the back of the tank. Sometimes something would happen to the air bubble under the air intake and the device would sink. Before the tape, I have to take the whole lid off and pull it up only to let it sink back down. As if he were mocking me! (laughs) After you tied the ribbon, it was easy to pull on it a little and it popped out. After calming down the surface interference from other filters, this was no longer a problem for me. Why 4 stars? 3 reasons (1) It's glass. It looks really cool and all, but I just crashed mine today. Pooh. Now I take the stainless steel version. It is more expensive, but buying 2 glasses made of glass is more expensive than one made of stainless steel. The inlet is made of acrylic. Too bad everything else isn't that good. (2) The lower inlet is clearly arranged: If I turn it, the inlet can be regulated. Unfortunately, trying to clean the base immediately popped out. I gave you a picture I was trying to figure out how to fix this when I knocked the item's glass display case off the counter and it shattered on the floor. . Problem solved? The design would be much better if this end cap could snap on or unscrew for easy and thorough cleaning. Instead, it's stuck and trying to peel it off could break it. (3) The upper curve is too narrow for a large tank. This wasn't a problem on my 45 gallon, but the rim of the 75 gallon is wider. Trying to turn it on and off was pretty excruciating. I expected it to break in my hands, but it didn't. Keep that in mind if you have a larger tank that you plan to use it with. (4) It is held on the outside of the tank with 2 suction cups. While these suction cups are a great idea in theory, they don't stick to anything other than glass. I have a decorative substrate on the tank so the jar is closed and these suction cups work every 5 minutes. I ended up having to glue it in place which wasn't fun on cleaning day. Overall LOVE LOVE LOVE this thing and can't recommend it enough. subject to these warnings. Excellent functionality makes up for any hassle IMHO. When I bought this, the steel version was sold out. Now it is and it looks like they took most of the issues I had and solved them with the new steel version. I have concerns that the pipe bend is still too tight for larger tanks. Just take a look.
