Review on Polaroid Heavy Duty Shaped Bracket by Steven Bush

I was looking for a flexible flash mount that could hold the flash at an angle for macro photography. Novoflex flash arm with soft grip, loop and ball head. It's good, but the price is very high for a layman like me. Then I found this on Revain. There were no reviews but for thirteen bucks I thought it was worth the risk. I mounted my SB-600 on a ball head using the ePhoto SB800 shoe mount with 1/4-20 thread and now I have a pretty nice and flexible off-camera flash position. This mount has a tripod mount at the bottom that other inexpensive mounts don't have and is a must have for me. However, I found a few flaws that prevent me from giving this five stars. First, it's the smell it gives off. There seems to be some kind of chemical in the rubber of the grip that hit me as soon as I cut open the packaging. When I look through my D90's viewfinder with it, I often hold my breath because it's almost unbearable with my nose. I even got a headache once. I'll try putting it in the sun for a day to see if it gets better. My second problem is that the ball head stays in place quite well, but not perfectly. Sometimes it slips a little. The head cocking knob is just a small metal ring and I'm afraid of applying too much torque to it to avoid bending the ring. So overall I'm very happy with it. It's not professional quality, but I paid less than 1/5 the price of a professional. And maybe the pollutants in the rubber will dissipate over time, hopefully without causing me any lasting health problems.
