I've wanted a butter dish for a long time and was glad I had the opportunity to try it. I'll say I'm on the fence about this. I'll assume I'll just use a regular butter dish and leave that on the counter with no problem. It doesn't usually stay long enough for my house to go bad, but I thought it would be nice to have something to extend that time. While absolutely beautiful, it seems to have a bit of mold on it. I used a good quality oil that I packed and I changed the water every day. I noticed some strange growth around the outer ring where it meets the water, not sure what it is. The butter stays fresh and can be spread on toast, but I can't use it if there is mold on the ceramic part. My water is fresh and I'm not sure what's going on. This may require a little more research on my part, but I'm a little stumped at the moment. I'll keep it in a sleeve and regular tissue paper until I figure out what's going on.
