Sparked it right up!

I played around with this a bit to get the feel for it and its capabilities. not all rods are equal.the first thing, I tried a dry cotton ball that I had pulled apart and made into a fluffy "nest" of sorts. the second was a wad of newspaper. I tried it against a small pile of wood shavings. each time they lit pretty easily.if you know how to make a fire getting the sparks to it isn't a big deal. if you a learner, sit down with some good old fashioned youtube and get yourself some book learnin' on the subject. everyone should know how to make fires without a lighter or matches. a ferro rod is just another tool in the arsenal. I found the striker to be sufficient but not "perfect". I think if you are looking at these, you should also have a sturdy knife to go with it. if you have a quality knife the striker is less important to have around. I will personally keep them together because its a decent little kit as it is.it only took me a few flicks with the striker to send a shower of sparks into my bbq grill and light the fires i had been attempting with various materials. I would recommend this rod as easy to use and fairly durable. I feel like I know what to expect from this rod in the event that I would ever need to use it. its really all you can ask of a ferro rod, isnt it?

Pros
  • So easy, not much effort at all.
Cons
  • The rod may be too short for some users' needs
