Wow! So easy and handy!

Wow just wow! Though I try, I am not the most outdoorsy or coordinated person but I like to be that mom friend who is prepared for anything whether it be an emergency or a birthday cake (lol haven't tried that with these but hey who knows might work). These are perfect and so easy to use. I literally used a box knife to scratch the black stuff off till it was shiny and it works like a charm. I've already had one match/ lighter free bonfire and look forward to many many more! Thank you!

Pros
  • Makes building Bon fires soooooooo much easier! Definitely a must buy!
Cons
  • The rod may become rusty over time if not properly cared for

Sparked it right up!

I played around with this a bit to get the feel for it and its capabilities. not all rods are equal.the first thing, I tried a dry cotton ball that I had pulled apart and made into a fluffy "nest" of sorts. the second was a wad of newspaper. I tried it against a small pile of wood shavings. each time they lit pretty easily.if you know how to make a fire getting the sparks to it isn't a big deal. if you a learner, sit down with some good old fashioned youtube and get yourself some book learnin'…

Pros
  • So easy, not much effort at all.
Cons
  • The rod may be too short for some users' needs

You need this good for me

You can't have enough of these things hanging around. I've used them for the last 20 some years. Still using them too. Only I reason I buy more is cause I keep losing them Then finding them again.

Pros
  • Made of high effective ferrocerium rod. Waterproof & Weatherproof, fits all weather, works in any weather condition
Cons
  • The rod may be difficult to replace if lost or damaged

Don’t leave home without it

My dad is retired Air Force, SERE instructor , and when I was a little he would take us out and show us how to survive. Build fires, set traps, forage…He said no matter what you decide to bring, NEVER forget your flint stick…This one is very similar to the one he used to use. Looks just like dads and works great!

Pros
  • Emergency Fire Starters
Cons
  • The rod may not last as long as other fire starter options

OK ferro rod, Excellent striker/scraper

There is really nothing special about this rod. The reason for buying this kit was to try it out, looking for a really good ferro rod and striker. If it worked out I was thinking of a larger rod. There are a lot of reviews on YouTube many of them telling the values of the bayite brand. The rod gives off a good amount of short term sparks. When used to fire up a paper towel it didn't lite it as it should. When used to lite Maya dust there was the same problem. It worked fine when easy tender was…

Pros
  • Should of bought this along time ago will be ordering a second
Cons
  • The rod may break if dropped or mishandled

Easy to use, even for kids

This is worth a try if you're looking for a good sized, robust ferro rod. I got it for my camping gear and it was a good choice. The rod itself is very thick and strong, and the striker has nice sharp edges that create plenty of sparks. Before using it I was a little anxious that the striker might be too small for easy use, but I was wrong. And as I have giant hands no one else should have an issue with it either. I was even able to hand it to my not-quite five year old and he got it sparking…

Pros
  • 5ft Paracord included, gives you a good grip and never comes off. Comes with a bayite Striker-Pro striker attached to the paracord, always be prepared to start a fire
Cons
  • The kit may not work well with wet or damp hands

Pros
  • Affordable: Priced reasonably, Bayite's Flint Fire Starter Ferro Rod kit is an affordable investment that ensures you are always prepared for any outdoor adventure. It is a cost-effective way to enjoy peace of mind whenever you are out and about in the wilderness
Cons
  • The kit may not be suitable for use in all types of environments or locations

Fun for the family in my review

My little family goes camping 4 times a year. We decided to have our 10yr old boy start our fires with this and he’s done a pretty good job at it. It does take patience but it’s a great learning experience for all three of my boys on figuring out what works best to get the fire goin.

Pros
  • Works as expected, worth the investment
Cons
  • The kit may be difficult to use in windy conditions

Great equipment for newbies or seasoned campers!

I’ve been in Girl Scouting for 15+ years and my favorite thing to teach is fire safety and building! I had an older style flint and steel (rectangle shape), but decided it was time to add this to my collection as another piece of equipment to introduce people to. It was very handy and easy to use. I like that the striking portion is attached with paracord (or a similar material) because otherwise it would be easily lost. Each participant was able to practice with this and was able to start a…

Pros
  • Bayite's Flint Fire Starter Ferro Rod kit is safe for use, as it does not emit any harmful chemicals or gases when ignited. Plus, the handle is designed to keep your hands and fingers away from the sparking area, preventing any potential accidents
Cons
  • The kit may be difficult to use with gloves or mittens on

Reliable. Works Great. Does It’s Job.

For needing something I know will get my fire going when I backpack this has been a excellent addition to my supply of gear when I go out over night and need something I know will not fail me.

Pros
  • Once you remove the black cover it is game on! Easy to use and makes a lot of sparks
Cons
  • The kit may not work well with all types of tinder

Revainrating 3 out of 5

No longevity in my review

The issue with this rod is that the black coating is the only thing that seems to catch sparks. Once the coating is gone, it won't produce any sparks. It could be a decent tool if you keep some petrol jelly soaked cotton balls, but if you plan on using this to light tinder, I would anticipate using 25% of the rod's supply of sparks to get the job done.

Pros
  • Safety & Survival
Cons
  • The kit may be over-engineered, making it more difficult to use

First strike and you got fire

Great starter! Easy to use and especially love the length of the rod. Due to the length, each stroke gives plenty of spark. Have that stuff land on some kindling and it is just about guaranteed to get a fire going.

Pros
  • My husband loves it and that’s all that matters.
Cons
  • The kit may not include instructions for proper use and maintenance

Worked as advertised

I've only used this twice while camping but have successfully started all my fires with this for an entire weekend. The magical key with using this or starting a fire the traditional way is that you have to have super dry and super flammable kindling. For example, you're going to have a hard time setting fire to wet wood. We had luck catching dried grass on fire with this for a starter.

Pros
  • Camping
Cons
  • The kit may not be as environmentally friendly as other fire starter options

Good value - my new review

I agree with some other reviews, the rope size makes it difficult to get full strikes that are productive. Although I was able to get a fire started with the rope attached to the striker I removed the second day of camping. I think another 2-3 inches of rope which is there with the knotting would do the trick. I bought the item to teach my kids different ways to start a fire. Happy with the rest of the product.

Pros
  • Sparks shower at 5,500 F (3,000 C) to ignite a fire in any weather (even wet), at any altitude. Perfect emergency fire starter for Bushcraft, Hiking, Hunting, Fishing, EDC, Emergency, BBQ, Gas Camp Stoves, etc
Cons
  • The rod may contain harmful materials such as lead or other metals

Works well best in my review

Once you scrape past the paint it makes a good amount of sparks pretty easy. You'll get the hang of it fast. It should last along time. Nice to have just incase.

Pros
  • Nice ferro rod for campfire use.
Cons
  • The kit may be challenging to clean after use

Fun to play around with

We ordered this just to play around with while on a camping trip. We (myself and two teenagers) have no fire starting skills what so ever but we made lots of sparks. Held up well to our abuse and seems like it will last a long time in our camping gear.

Pros
  • ‎1A333
Cons
  • The rod may not be suitable for use with all types of rocks or surfaces

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works like a champ good for me

Once you scrape the paint off, it throws a nice shower of sparks. Length is about right. Unlike other reviewers, I have no issues with the striker. I think that’s because at some point they upgraded it to the "Striker-Pro” and it works great - sparks virtually every time from a variety of angles. My only wish is that it came with a sheath/sleeve of some type to protect the rod while jostling around in my backpack. Ended up buying a pen sleeve for it.

Pros
  • Not a life-saving event - but had to use it to hold some pants up once... 100% would buy again.
Cons
  • The rod may be difficult to grip for users with limited hand mobility

I Can Start A Fire With This

I had an old Ferro rod - the kind bonded to a block of magnesium - and carried it in my day pack for years. It was basically useless. It was hard to start paper with it. I'm not some super woodsy survival show dude so it's possible my technique was lacking. But I could only get the tiniest of sparks off it. So I decided to get a halfway decent rod and this is it. It's a halfway decent ferro rod and I can start a fire with it. I can toss decent sparks with it and ignite tinder I prepared with my

Pros
  • Ferrocerium Rod Length:4"(10cm). Diameter: 3/8"(10mm). Large enough for a shower of sparks and small enough to carry
Cons
  • The kit may be too expensive for budget-conscious adventurers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

great for old hands

I got this for its length. I have many shorter ones but this is much easier to use and sparks very well. Can use a knife also for better control. For helpers save your dryer lint. very flammable. or keep some cotton balls. It's very impressive to the grand kids to start a fire with a spark. You have to ware the coating off in 1 spot only. leave the rest to protect it till needed. Think this will be my last one till they come out with a 7' one.

Pros
  • Throws a lot of sparks.
Cons
  • The rod may cause damage to other camping gear if not stored properly

Amazingly Effective!

I purchased this product to use as a fire starter, primarily for my wood stove, which I've had for over 40 years. Never have I had an easier time starting a fire than with this product. It is especially effective when using it to ignite a cotton ball with a few drops of lamp oil on it. It emits plenty of sparks.

Pros
  • So far I am very please. Easy to spark, easy to hold, and lightweight. Let’s see how it holds up.
Cons
  • The kit may not be the most efficient or reliable fire starter option
