Review on Gear Up For Your Next Outdoor Adventure With Bayite'S 4 Inch Flint Fire Starter Ferro Rod Kit by Bubba Ott

I Can Start A Fire With This

I had an old Ferro rod - the kind bonded to a block of magnesium - and carried it in my day pack for years. It was basically useless. It was hard to start paper with it. I'm not some super woodsy survival show dude so it's possible my technique was lacking. But I could only get the tiniest of sparks off it. So I decided to get a halfway decent rod and this is it. It's a halfway decent ferro rod and I can start a fire with it. I can toss decent sparks with it and ignite tinder I prepared with my camp knife. I appreciate the striker on the lanyard because I don't like using my knife's spine on a ferro rod. That's just my personal preference. Obviously in a survival situation, I'd use whatever means necessary to start a fire. But for day to day stuff, I really like this rod. Of course, always carry a backp firestarter. I carry this rod, a box of matches and a butane lighter. For critical stuff like fire, redundancy is your friend.

Pros
  • Ferrocerium Rod Length:4"(10cm). Diameter: 3/8"(10mm). Large enough for a shower of sparks and small enough to carry
Cons
  • The kit may be too expensive for budget-conscious adventurers
