You need to practice using the wand to be successful.
The problem with this wand is that despite watching several YouTube videos I still feel uncomfortable using it. I would love to use someone else's hair, but it was too difficult for me. It comes with a heat resistant glove so you don't burn yourself and the wand gets very hot. But in general I'm fine. when using a regular curling iron, but an iron isn't for me, at least without a lot of practice.
