Meets or exceeds the Canon counterpart in every way. Sharp images with good background separation at f2.8. AF is fast and quiet. VC (Stabilization) works as advertised, providing a slight grip in your hand at 200mm for up to 1/30s or slower if you have steady hands. Personally, I increase the ISO and slow the shutter speed before attempting to shoot at such a slow speed, as at this point I'm more concerned with subject movement than camera shake. The build quality of the latest generation of Tamron lenses is outstanding. It's a real pleasure to stay and work for hours. The focus and zoom rings are smooth and well dampened. The barrel finish is beautiful. One thing I noticed is that the AF and VC control switches seem to be easier to turn off than the corresponding function switches on my Canons. I think this is partly because Tamron switches have slightly lower resistance and maybe a bit more vulnerable compared to Canon switches. This resulted in me suddenly shooting in manual focus mode after apparently moving the AF/MF switch while carrying or unpacking the Tamron. The built in Arca mounting plate is great. Thank you Tamron.
