Review on ARRIS SURFboard SB6190 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem: Cox, Spectrum, Xfinity & more - White by Ron Coleman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The most economical/future-proof modem for Xfinity/Cable users.

This is the most economical and efficient modem you can currently buy for Xfinity and most cable users. At the moment you have the following options: 16x4 modem Docsis 3.0 cable modem new $60 SB6190 32x8 DOCSIS 3.0 c) Docsis 3.1 hybrid modem that supports both versions of Docsis 3.0 and 3.1 standards, like Motorola Ultra Fast DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem model MB8600 plus 32x8 DOCSIS 3.0 $160-$200 new 32x8 channel standard probably the latest/fastest version of anything coming out of the DOCSIS 3.0 standard. With a 32x8 configuration, you can have gigabit internet with this modem. Right now this one, especially one of the used SB6190s, makes the most economical sense as it allows you to upgrade to any of Comcast's 250, 400, 1000 megabit data plans without modification. With more and more 4K content being released, it just doesn't make sense to save $20 used/$30 new by getting the slower SB6183. This device will reach 686 megabits and will need to be replaced in the next few years. On the other end of the spectrum, spending $160-$200 on a hybrid DOCSIS 3.1 modem doesn't make sense since most customers won't be using a plan that takes full advantage of it. Also, when we get to the multi-gigabit Internet plans, DOCSIS 3.1 modems will no longer be hybrid modems but single-chip modems that cost significantly less than a modem that must support both DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1. Get this modem now and you won't have to worry about upgrading for the next 4-5 years.
