Review on 🎡 Jensen JTA-222 3-Speed Turntable with Portable Case: A Perfect Blend of Style and Functionality by Mark Powell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It works, but I don't recommend it.

Works because you can listen to the recording on it. And if you just want it as novelty (nothing wrong with that), then that's fine. I bought this as a gift for someone who I thought would like it. And there's something I love.* The faux antique design, which is just cheaply molded plastic, is still charming if you like the aesthetic* It doesn't take up more space than it takes* It's easy to use. Just plug it in, start recording and off you go*. Automatic start and stop. But if you're serious about it (or intend to be), I don't think you'll be happy with it in the long run. Here are the flaws that catch my eye. * Built-in speakers suck * No preamp or line out. Even on something cheap, I find it odd that there aren't any RCA jacks with standard audio output (which isn't affected by the volume control). * No counterweight, no anti-pass. I wouldn't believe a cheap tonearm is well balanced. This can cause excessive wear on your records over time. I haven't checked lately, but I seem to recall that there were turntables with these features that cost around $100. It's like the difference in price between a bunch of new records.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • No instructions
