Small enough to fit in a cup holder, the Mini, Mini 2 and Mini 3 can play full-bodied, rich music with surprisingly good bass. They're not the best choice for an outdoor party, but for personal listening they're a good choice, especially the Mini 3. In this review I'll highlight two features of the Mini 3: - True 360° sound coverage. - "Breakthrough" customizable 360° 9-band graphic EQ compared to bi-directional barrel speakers, which are often claimed to have 360° sound coverage, but many (Soundcore examples include Flare & Motion Q) are actually bi-directional with two speaker cones oriented in opposite directions. directions. This isn't 360°, and clarity depends on what angle the speaker is at to the listener. The sound can also be a bit muffled as there may not be as much elevation above the speaker plane. The result is superb clarity that makes them ideal for listening to dialogue from TV shows and films, as well as for conferences and web conferencing. Bass seems to be boosted by the piston-like speaker cone, which pushes the low frequencies towards the surface on which the cabinet rests. . The result is remarkably rich and balanced sound, and as YouTube reviewer "Oluv" pointed out, the original Mini outperforms a much larger speaker. The bass of the Mini 2 and Mini 3 is even better because the power has been increased slightly, the chassis is half an inch taller and a vented passive heatsink has been added to the bottom. So if they look the same, the Mini 3 is worth $5 more. as Mini 2? Definitely yes. That's why custom EQ is a game changer. There is no way to adjust the audio when using an iPhone to play Pandora as Apple's equalizer only works with their own music apps. In my experience, the Pandora often has too many mids and not enough deep bass or bright highs. She desperately needs a balance. but so far there was no way to add it from iPhone. So the main reason to buy the Mini 3 over other Minis is that... it (and some of the other newer Soundcore speakers) adds a new feature that lets you customize your sound with a 9-band graphic equalizer in the free Soundcore can app for iOS and Android. To see which speakers are supported, search for the Soundcore app on apps.apple.com or play.google.com and a list will appear. Once installed on your phone, click on the equalizer menu bar. It will likely be in the "Soundcore Signature" preset which, as shown in the attached file, has the classic "smile curve" with bass and treble higher than the mids. Of the four presets, this one is the best for playing loud music in my opinion... and I'm guessing it's also standard (and only option) on the Mini 2 and the original Mini. As shown in the example on the right, you can deviate from the factory settings by clicking on "Custom". The app then lets you drag 9 different sliders up and down to tweak the sound. This level of control is typically only available to a professional musician... and it can transform the sound. The example custom setting on the right is extreme. but at low background volume it sounds great. Bottom line... for the first time ever it sounds really "hi-fi" from my Pandora iPhone app and I'm enjoying it as I write this review. Highly recommended !
