Review on SwitchBot Security Indoor Camera: 1080P Motion Detection Smart Surveillance WiFi Pet Camera for Home Security with Night Vision, Two-Way Audio, Works with Alexa - Ideal for Baby Monitor by Fernando Beck

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The Alexa Routine baby monitor works well. Outstanding picture quality.

Initial setup: super easy and quick. Pretty easy if you already have Switchbot devices and are used to setting up cameras like this. Simply scan the QR code from the app onto the camera and you're done! The instructions were clear and concise and easy to follow. I didn't even have to look at the instructions they gave in the box. Baby Monitor Feature: Purchased to use as a baby monitor for my baby through integration with my Echo Show 5 (1st Gen). So far, after two days of testing, it works very well! Motion detection triggers my routine to automatically display the stream on my Echo Show. You can talk to your baby both ways directly on the Echo Show (unlike the wyze v3 camera which doesn't support two-way communication). The video stream to my Echo is fine and the delay/latency isn't great. Maybe around 1-2 seconds (I live in Malaysia). I've seen worse with Arlo and Wyze cameras, so that's acceptable if you ask me. Triggers/Notifications: I haven't really tested if the child/baby human detection works, but the regular motion detection works fine with my baby! The person recognition works well when I walk around the room. Very glad the AI person detection feature is FREE (unlike Wyze). However, I wish iOS notifications were better, a little "richer" (actually say "person detected" or show a quick snapshot of the stream. Right now the notification just says "motion detected". Too bad that they didn't give it either the option to turn on the sound/baby cry detection so the camera will send a notification even if a loud noise/baby cry detection is detected even if the camera isn't moving. It's weird that the Sound detection hasn't become standard when it is advertised as a baby monitor Notification time isn't bad either, pretty quick Haven't had any issues with slow notifications or anything like that (camera off) at certain times of the day It seems to work pretty well and it does will give a notification after the scene starts. Too bad they didn't get the camera's privacy mode to do the physical e Shield that locks the camera, but its privacy mode is triggered by the software off mode, not the physical camera shield. Still a nice feature and gives you some peace of mind. Image Quality: The image and video quality day and night is pretty good! I'm glad to be able to see a lot of details while my baby sleeps peacefully in her room all night. I think it's 1080p and good enough for a baby monitor and for my Echo Show 5. If you need it for an indoor security camera, I'm not sure if 1080p is good enough, but I think it's good enough for my use. Storage/Cloud Service: They have options for onboard storage via an SD card (which I haven't bought or tested) but they also offer a cloud storage service for a fee. Compared to Wyze, I find Switchbot's cloud storage a bit more expensive, but I didn't buy this product to use cloud services, so I can't comment on features/quality. Sound quality: I wish the sound was a little louder for my child. hear my voice I can hear all the sounds and voices from my phone just fine, but the speaker on the camera itself isn't loud/clear enough to hear me. Still happy overall because I basically want to use it to tell me if my baby wakes up at night. The microphone on the camera picks up sounds and voices quite well, on the phone it's very clear. Integration: So far only works on Alexa. I have both Google Home/Assistant and Alexa in my house so I don't care, but it would be great if it integrated with IFTTT and GH as well. Being an iPhone user, I'm also hoping for future Siri/Homekit integration. You can set Alexa Routines to run either when motion is detected or when there has been no motion for some time. This is good if you want to use the camera as a trigger to turn off the light in a room when nobody is in the room! Mount/Stand: They provide 3M tape, screws and anchors to attach the camera, so it's great. You can attach the stand/mount to the bottom or back of the camera. The mount/tripod connection isn't your standard connection and is more fiddly (like a Lego connection) than the typical screw format that other cameras use. Power cord: For the power cord, do you offer 1-1.5 meters? USB cable and power adapter, but the quality of the cable seems a bit cheap. I replaced it with my own cable because the one they gave out of the box was a bit loose connected. It's not a big problem for me as I have tons of USB cables lying around at home. Overall Rating: Works as intended and advertised, but there is still room for improvement. Since this is a new product category for Switchbot, I'm really surprised at how well they've implemented it. I'm glad they built Alexa Routines into this product for more extensive smart home integration. I am satisfied with the purchase and give 5 stars for a product worth its price!
