Review on Oster Classic 76 Professional Hair Clippers: The Ultimate Hair Clipper Set for Barbers and Men in Burgundy by Erica Clay

Great clipper but not for cutting your own hair

I really wanted to like this clipper. I've trimmed my hair for a while with a reasonably priced Wahl clipper, but I've had a few trimmings done by a professional with an Oster Classic 76 with metal blades and I've been amazed at how much better it cuts. my hair as my choice or other clippers in professional hands for that matter. In terms of cutting accuracy, there really is no comparison between the Classic 76 and other clippers. I also liked the fact that the Classic 76 is built to last and can be rebuilt when something wears out. This is not a disposable item; Brushes, reducer and blades are interchangeable. The gearbox can be cleaned and re-lubricated. The Classic 76 is just too big, too heavy and too bulky to cut my own hair. Its accuracy is actually also a disadvantage for self-tapping. It is so precise that any small error in tilting the clippers will be transferred to the hair being cut. While this is a great clipper for when someone else is cutting it, I found it too uncomfortable to use on my own hair. I suspect that with enough practice I could get a decent haircut with the Classic 76, but it's a lot more difficult than with a lighter, more ergonomic clipper. It's going back to Val for me. Unfortunately, I only made that decision after I'd used the Classic 76 a couple of times and then it was too late to return it.

Pros
  • Heavy duty, high quality body with ergonomic design, ideal for all day clipping
Cons
