Not refurbished or disassembled, bought as NEW. I was disappointed with the lack of cleanliness on aluminum surfaces, but since aluminum is a notoriously dirty metal, I mistook it for a mass-produced item with poor quality control. The idea that a company working to build a reputation for quality in the commercial desktop SLA market would sell heavily used items as new didn't even occur to me at the time. Following the instructions, I set up the "new" printer. Immediately after the first test print I had one failure after the other. This was extremely unexpected as I chose the Sonic Mini based on previous reviews of the device. After many hours and expense of troubleshooting expensive resins and cleaners, I was able to print partial successes. Strangely, this required an exposure time 4-5 times longer than I expected from this machine. These prints were only partially successful and always required complete draining, cleaning and filtering of the resin bath as many fragments would float or cling to the bath and cause enough FEP damage to require replacement to avoid possible FEP failure avoid. I've spent the last week contacting tech or sales support, EVERYONE in the company at the moment to help with any issues as I haven't realized yet that a device with consumables was being sent to me near the end of its life. components. After reaching out to hobbyist and enthusiast forums, I realized how dark and streaky the LCD test was compared to how the NEW unit was supposed to perform. Once I realized this, further research revealed that even long-lived components like the ball screw were extremely worn, even more so than the well-used assembly I borrowed to test at the beginning. To date I have not received a response from several of the contacts I have contacted at Phrozen. Attempting to calibrate the printer settings to what I now know, and realizing that it is painfully obvious at the end of the device's life is abuse, I wasted many hours of work and personal time, as well as wasted considerable money on resins , cleaning chemicals, disposable personal protective equipment. Items etc. I am very disappointed, previously I was happy with the decision to use the Phrozen Sonic Mini as the machine we built for our SLA prototyping and manufacturing department after receiving a well maintained sound meter in a timely manner with many hours had . mini and time with other monochrome DLP solutions seemed a perfect match. To be honest, maybe yes, but so far the cumulative experience of zero response to each of the many attempts to contact anyone in the company coupled with aggravated wasted time troubleshooting and wasted supplies. I hope Phrozen sees this and responds as the other channels don't seem to have gone away. That might be naïve at this point, but I sincerely hope it's just an unfortunate accident and that Phrozen sees that it was done right.
