I have a 54 lb dog who is an OE/poodle mix. She is very strong and still freaks out when she sees a squirrel or anything alive. The cord held when she tugged. The only thing that disappointed me a little was that on the first day of use it rolled onto the floor, the latch came off easily and ran away (we got it home within an hour with the help of a friendly neighbor). . I replaced the latch with a carabiner (I think that's the term?) which has a twist lock. It takes 5 seconds longer to turn the cable on and off, but it works and we're happy with it. The hook/clasp it came with also started to rust after a few months outdoors (I left it on the cord as I'm not sure if it can be removed). I suppose that's to be expected when he's on the patio floor most of the time. But be aware that a bar is not necessarily all-weather.
