I used this with a 500GB Samsung SSD connected to a USB 3.0 port on my laptop. I could replace the internal hard drive with an SSD and then reinstall Windows using a USB stick with Microsoft's Windows 10 ISO. But then I would have to set up a new Windows installation and reinstall old applications. Instead, I was able to clone a hard drive to a laptop-mounted SSD using Samsung's SSD data migration software. To my pleasant surprise, I replaced the HD internally with an SSD and it worked great, albeit much faster!
