I bought this charger to use in my car as the only charger I had was cumbersome for the cigarette lighter which meant that I couldn't load anything else. This puts a load on Garmin, but doesn't use it to update maps. I went to garmin.com and chatted with someone there and they sent me a data cable for FREE! (yes, it may take 3-6 days, but who cares! It's FREE!)
