Review on LiftMaster KPW5 Wireless 5 Code Commercial Keypad: Optimize Access & Security by Tim Larsen

Expensive junk, good for access control keypads

We have replaced our old keypad for our gates with this one. The old one had sticky buttons after years of use. 2 months later we are still tinkering with this new one to make sure it works properly. This is the second new keyboard to try. Our remotes still work great at 400 feet. Phone calls and emails to LiftMaster (Chamberlin) did not help. This new block only opens the gate half the time it takes a car to drive towards it (this is how the keyboard is normally used). Tech support said to change the battery which was done with a new lithium 9 volt. Then they said to buy a remote antenna for the receiver. I had one that the LiftMaster dealer didn't hook up when we got a new door system a few years ago to replace a 6 month old system that had failed (another LiftMaster story of its own). So we connected this backup and made no changes. So I moved the antenna to the gate and even near the keyboard and pulled the antenna wire out of the keyboard to open it. It was just a little bit better. So we moved the antenna even closer, and no change. The antenna is within line of sight and 7 feet from the keyboard. I now have a sticker on the keypad so people can move their car 3-4 feet away from the keypad and get out to enter the code if the gate won't open. That's ridiculous for a gate opener. Product support said LED headlights affect their openers but it's much worse than that. With all the issues with LiftMaster units and 2 authorized local dealers I would be very wary of their products and support.
