Fixed long standing problem

I was having knock sensor seizures on a 2000 Tahoe z71 and it turned out to be a cure. In short, despite what the computer code says about a faulty knock sensor, lead was actually the real problem. I've replaced the knock sensor 2 times (thought I had a bad sensor when the check engine light came back on for the first time). Although the mechanic insisted the cable was fine, I decided to call my friend who works for the Chevy dealership. to see what he thinks. He knew immediately it was wrong. He said without question that it was the knock sensor connector. It was a pretty cheap game so I gave it a try and voila. 2 things to watch out for. The mechanic blew it up, but it wasn't all his fault. He checked the old wiring for continuity and found it. He checked the resistance and it was ok. However, the cable maintained continuity and good resistance readings from the sensor when at a certain angle, causing it to age and wear out. Chevrolets are notorious for problems with these things and their entry locking systems. Second, when you get this part and do the job, be very careful with the fork so you don't damage it. They're pretty solid. They will break, so be cautious. Oh, and make sure you reset the error code after fixing the problem, otherwise the light will most likely stay on. Much luck!
